About

My name is Robert Belden and I have been teaching since 2005 in both public and private schools.

In the fall of 2021 I enrolled in the University of Florida Graduate Certificate Program in dyslexia so that I could learn to help my students that were having difficulty in reading and writing.

At the University of Florida I discovered a wealth of knowledge on the science of reading, and clinical methods that are supported by research for helping students to become expert readers.

After putting these methods into practice, I was astonished by how fast my students advanced in their reading.

Inspired by the results I was seeing, in June of 2023 I decided to leave the classroom and become a full time independent provider of structured literacy/dyslexia support.

Since then, I have continued to see incredible results in one student after another, and have continued to grow my expertise in the science of reading.

Personalized Support

Working with students one on one allows me to personalize instruction for each student's unique needs. Each concept is taught explicitly so that students can systematically build their understanding of letters, sounds, spelling, reading, and writing.

Each intensive lesson is one hour in duration. With two weekly sessions, students are able to make rapid gains in literacy.

I deliver all of my sessions online over Zoom. When you work with me, you never need to drive to an office or sit in a waiting room.

Free Consultation

Every child is different. I offer a free thirty minute consultation so that you can share with me your concerns about your child's reading and writing and ask any questions you have.

One of the most important things I learned in my time as a teacher is that learning happens through relationship and rapport. The consultation is a great way for us to get to know each other, and for me to learn how to best connect with and advocate for your child.

Literacy Assessment Report

Before our first session, I work with your child to complete assessments in reading, writing, and phonological awareness that allow me to gain an in depth understanding of what concepts need to be taught and what skills need to be developed.

I compile my findings from these assessments into a report that outlines your child's needs and my instructional plan. This report can be shared with your child's teacher or the reading specialist at your school

After our first thirty sessions, I conduct follow up assessments and complete a follow up report that includes data showing the results of intervention as well as recommendations for continuing support.

Personalized Curriculum

Each session is planned and delivered for your child in consideration of their own individual needs.  My instruction is rooted in the research based clinical intervention model for intensive dyslexia intervention, developed at the University of Florida.

In addition to instructional materials developed at the University of Florida I also draw on additional research based resources, such as writing curriculum from the Institute for Effective Writing and additional structured literacy materials from a variety of sources.

Structured Literacy Through Lexercise

In addition to the personalized structured literacy/dyslexia support I offer based on the UFLI model, I am also the director of a Lexercise therapy group called Structured Literacy Associates. Lexercise is an online platform, custom built to empower students and parents to receive structured literacy/dyslexia support online.

Lexercise and the University of Florida have both created high quality curricula that incorporate the latest research.  The primary difference between the two modalities has to do with practice structure.  In the UFLI delivery model, I meet with a student online two or three times a week.  In the Lexercise model, I meet with the student and parent together once per week, and the student then completes computer-game based practice that I assign to be done between sessions.

I see amazing success with my students in both modalities.  If you would like to visit the home page for my Lexercise therapy group, click the link below.
